Guide for Authors
The aim of the Revista Española de Drogodependencias is the scientific dissemination of research work related to alcoholism, smoking and other drug addictions, including non-toxic addictions.
The Revista Española de Drogodependencias is free of charge for the processing of articles, i.e. the publication of articles is free of charge for the authors.
Each paper must be identified with one of the following scientific articles:
Review. A paper written to review several previously published primary articles. These reviews may be simply bibliographical, annotated in the field of drug dependence and addictions, or critical and interpretative studies of published works in this field. Their maximum length will be 6,000 words.
Original. Scientific work that describes original research results in the field of drug dependence and addictions, in such a way that its information allows other colleagues to evaluate the observations, repeat the experiments and assess whether the data justify the author's conclusions. Logic, clarity and precision are required. The maximum length is 5,000 words and should contain the following sections: 1. Introduction; 2. Materials and Methods; 3.
Short communication. Brief written work with definitive or preliminary results on research work on drug addictions and addictions; it does not give details on the experiments or does so in a very summarised form, and the bibliographical references are reduced to a maximum of 35. The maximum length will be 3,500 words.
Clinical case. Briefly written paper with a maximum length of 1,500 words, not exceeding a maximum of 2 tables and/or figures. The manuscript should follow the following order: 1) title; 2) abstract in Spanish and English of a maximum of 200 words and 3 to 5 keywords; 3) introduction; 4) description of the case; 5) comments and discussion; and 6) bibliography. A maximum of four authors per clinical case is allowed.
Legal section. Scientific work in legal matters that describes original research results in the field of drug addiction and addictions. Logic, clarity and precision in its presentation are required. The maximum recommended length should be 5,000 words.

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS
Except in the case of an express exception made by the editors, papers should never exceed 6,000 words in length. Priority for publication will be given to those works that are unpublished and have not been submitted for review by another graphic medium, and the author must indicate this condition in the submission.
Each table, graph or photograph must be submitted in a separate file, numbered consecutively and indicating its position in the text, with sufficient resolution: for graphs/illustrations it is recommended to send files in .jpg format with a resolution of 300 dpi.
Each work should be sent by email to sec_red@aesed.com. The text should be submitted in Microsoft Word format. If you have not received an acknowledgement of receipt of your work within 1 week of sending it, please call the editorial secretariat on 96 394 12 64 to check that it has been received correctly.
The first page should include the title of the paper, both in Spanish and English, the name and institution of the authors and the full address of the contact author (institution, postal address and e-mail).
The second page should contain the abstract of the paper in English and Spanish, between 100 and 250 words. It should be understood without the need to read the whole paper and will be accompanied by 3 to 6 key words for indexing, also in the two languages mentioned above. The text of the article will begin on the third page.
In the papers submitted to the journal, the funding agency/s and the codes of the projects in which the research has been carried out must be indicated. If there has been no funding of any kind, this should also be indicated.
The estimated average time between receipt of manuscripts and publication of articles is 6 months.
During 2024, 42 articles have been published, 51 manuscripts have been received, 11 papers have been rejected/withdrawn. Likewise, 63 reviews have been requested and 48 have been received.
BIBLIOGRAPHY
Bibliographical references will follow APA style (7th ed.). In the text, when citing a work that has only one author, the surname and the year of publication are used within parentheses and separated by a comma. Example: (Bogani, 1975). If a work with two authors is cited, both authors must be named each time the reference appears in the text. Example: (Aguilar and Olivar, 2008).
If the work has three or more authors, use only the surname of the first author followed by ‘et al.’ and the year. Example: (Zarza et al., 2008). At the end of the article, bibliographical references should be presented in alphabetical order, strictly following the following rules:
Books: author's surname, comma, first initial, full stop, year of publication in brackets, full stop, full title of the work in italics, full stop, publisher and full stop.
Example: Bogani, E. (1975). El alcoholismo, enfermedad social. Plaza & Janes.
If there is more than one author, all must be indicated, separated by a comma (,) except the last one, which is preceded by the conjunction ‘and’.
Example: Megías Valenzuela, E., Comas, D., Elzo, J., Megías, I., Navarro, J., Rodríguez, E. and Romaní, O. (2001). Social values and drugs. Fundación de Ayuda a la Drogadicción (FAD).
Journal articles: author's surname, comma, first name initial, full stop, year of publication in brackets, full stop, title of the article, full stop, full title of the journal in italics, comma, volume in italics, number in brackets, comma, first page, hyphen, last page, full stop.
Example: Moncada Bueno, S. (2009). Prevention in times of crisis. Revista Española de Drogodependencias, 34 (4), 372-375.
Other documents: In the case of communications and papers presented at Congresses, Seminars, Symposiums, Conferences, Book chapters, etc., the following elements are specified: author's surname, comma, first initial, full stop, year of publication in brackets, title of the book chapter, paper or conference, full stop, place the preposition ‘En’ followed by the name of the editor (first initial and surname), place the expression ‘Ed. ‘or ‘Coord.’ after the name of the editor or coordinator, comma, name of the congress, symposium or title of the book in italics, pages where it is published in brackets (abbreviations pp, full stop, initial page, hyphen, final page), full stop, place of publication, colon (:) publisher, full stop.

Huici, E. Gaviria and A. Gómez (Coords.), Método, teoría e investigación en psicología social (pp. 365-375). Madrid: Pearson Educación.
